  • Before and after pics on my car lot.

As some of you may know, my family and I have purchased a house and some land, which we are converting into a car lot. Finally got around to snapping some pics. It's an 1100 sq foot, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, on .62 acre. It's located near Dallas Raceway and it's right across the street from the RPM dirt track. We are making good progress since it's just me and my dad doing the outside stuff and my mom and sister doing the inside. Working a shoe string budget, so thrift store furniture, leftover paint, used conduit for a fence, etc.

Started out by building a sign, demolishing that crap fence to the left, and getting the internet antenna mounted.

Next up we dumped some rock out in the primary car parking area.

Which I then turned into this with a skid loader. Also set the metal poles that will become the fence.

Inside shot of the office. Whoever lived there wasn't a very clean person, plus they had a dog that liked to piss on the walls.

Then we made a ton of progress this week. Got more rock in and created a second driveway, painted the office area to get rid of the god awful yellow, then finished out the pipe fence.

I would look into asphalting that lot IMO. Cars get too dirty on gravel.

Thanks. I agree, but you have to get a location before you can apply for the license. Everything is in for getting the license except for the bond, which has been approved and paid for and damn well should be in the mail. We are shooting for an early october opening.

We will after a bit. Right now the cash is a bit tight and the cost of asphalting it will take several cars out of inventory.

What kind of cars you selling? Looks like it has potential for a Bentley dealership....

Yep it was. No one was going to buy it thanks to the dirt track in the front yard. Got it for dirt cheap and the agency was happy to get rid of it.

Cheap, but reliable stuff. Mid 90's through mid 2000's.

Instead of gravel, should of bought asphalt chippings, probably cheaper than rock gravel. After driving on it it compresses and basically turns as hard as a freshly paved road.

Gravel was $200 per load and took 8 loads to do everything. I have seen what happens with the chippings, grass will punch through it easily. My neighbor had it done and within three years you could barely tell the difference between the driveway and the yard. Better to have a rock foundation, then go with hot asphalt. I already know that the cars are going to get dirt since the track next door has the same gravel that I do. Not going to make much difference.

Looks like a good start. How difficult was it to get the dealers license?

We have been dumping gravel on our lot every year for 10 years and it won't hold up all year... Last year we used the ground up asphalt and it has held up great, driving rv's back and forth across the lot every day. Looks like a good used car lot.

Anything is for sale, but it's my personal car. It's a 96 GT Convertible. Odo stopped at 147K in 09, owner was averaging 7K a year according to autocheck. Bone stock as can be. Brand new tires, needs a top

Yeah, I wasn't looking for a vert when I got it, but it was the only super clean, bone stock GT I could find in my price range. I have actually come to enjoy it, especially in this weather.
