Congrats on sobriety, my step mom just had a relapse after 9 months but owned up and is starting fresh again. I have witnessed the struggle and respect the effort and determination required to win.

Whatever it takes to get and stay sober I say do it.
I have never had a problem but I rarely drink anyway.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

The hardest part for me was admitting that I had a problem beyond my control, definitely a blow to the ego, but life is so much better now that I get to relax be me.

Keep it up man, you've come this far, you can keep on keepin on. Self sabotage is a very real thing, but the fact that you're able to recognize the potential stumbling stones now should enable you to stay on track.

A very big part of the process though, was being able to talk openly with others who had been there, which helped me come to terms with it. One of the biggest hurdles ironically, is the very same mentality that you display in this post. I put it out there that I am sober to be an example, and perhaps show somebody who is stumbling that it's okay to reach out for help.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with being "smart," there have been some highly intelligent addicts, famous and otherwise.
But hey, whatever helps you feel better about yourself.
