I was there during the 96 civil war between the butt nakeds and the EcoMog (and a few others I believe). I was attached to the 22nd Meu part of the ECC team that evacuated local nationals and American civilians. Our grunts engaged a few times in protection of the embassy, but nothing major. One of my NCOs caught a horrific act on video right outside of the fishbowl (area with a large thick glass front where MSG Marines sit. A few butt nakeds had taken a guy to the ground and took his pants off. One of them then took a machete and whacked the guys genitals off. He then picked them up and took a bite out of them. This was all done while the guy was still concious. I asked one of the Liberian embassy workers why they did this and he said it was because they wanted to demoralize the man before he died. By doing this they believed they were making him less of a man before he died. Customs snatched the video from us when we got back so no linky here. Met some cool people while I was there and brought back a few cool pieces that customs somehow overlooked too.
