  • Snake lovers inside

Here's the newest addition to my family - Cletus. He's an 18 month old Green Tree python. I realize he's not "green" as his name would indicate - there are different subspecies of this kind of snake that all have colors/combinations other than all green.

Has anyone ever had one of these? If so, any tips or suggestions?

I had one just like that, she had a nasty personality but was gorgeous! She is the only snake that ever bit me (twice) and although it was not that painful, both bites bled a lot! She also musked and shit on me one as she bit me. That was worse than the bite and the last time I handled her or messed with her cage. At the time I had several ball pythons and ended up trading her for an adult red tail boa.

Ive had around 150 Burmese pythons and a few different boas and such. My favorite python was a reticulated python. Only snake I've ever owned that had a personality.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

So far so good with this one, although I'm pretty sure he would bite if I messed with him the wrong way.

Thanks. I've had a ton of snakes and reptiles over the years, but it's been 15+ years since I owned the last one. I'm still trying to get used to him just as much he is me. I had a reticulated python that was about 5-6 feet long. He was usually pretty cool, but he got out and when I tried to get him he bite the crap out of my arm.

My wife thinks the same thing. She basically told me if it happens to get out of its tank that she will be gone. Now I've got an exit strategy when/if I ever get sick of her.

This.......is why you don't take your cute little pets that you don't want anymore in hopes of finding them a new home to pet stores. They become free food for the pet store employees snakes or whatever else they have.

I can't tell you how many people brought in their pet hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, rabbits and a few other types of animals thinking that the pet store would just resale them or find them homes.

I had a ball python named Cletus.

That fucker had personality! He hated it when I thumped the mice to stun them before feeding him. He would wait until they got their shit together before stalking them.

I started putting them in the feeding box in a full panic. He would calm them by kissing them and then leaving them alone. He would let them crawl all over him while he got the rest of his body into position. When he finally got into striking stance, he would give them one more kiss. As the mouse leaned in to sniff Cletus's mouth he would strike with so much force that they would hit the other side of the box and flip it over leaving them underneath it.

You would hear two squeaks and a crunch. This was the signal that the box could be taken off of Cletus so I could see him eat the mouse. I was then allowed to put him back in the box for the next mouse to comfort before death.
