I planned to do that for my gun room/safe when we renovated our house 2 years ago, but the plans changed and wasn't able to do it. I'm still bitter about it.

^not shabby. I would want something that thieves could pass over though. If my house is ever broken into and they pick up one book the gig is up, I'm trying to think of something else that would be a similar setup but not need to be loaded down with extra weight and bust the hinges. And a bookcase at the end of a hallway isn't very inconspicuous.

Yeah, should be able to build it cheaper, but don't confuse that with it being cheap. Nearly damned thing I ever build, I could buy some version of it that's cheaper.
