My 5.0 loves 60-65 for the best gas mileage (24) but at 45 it gets 29.

Another vote for the BedRug. I got mine on Ebay for about $350 shipped.

Just imagine the mileage we'd get if they didn't put that ethanol shit in our gas.

Nice truck! I had a rug and soft cover when I had my Dakota R/T. No complaints with it at all.
The mileage should come up as it gets broken in more. My focus picked up 1~2mpg city and highway by the time I hit about 1500 miles. Also, with a K&N drop in filter and Lucas fuel treatment in the tank, I get over 42mpg on pure highway versus the factory rated 37mpg. City mpg is 29 versus the factory rated 27.
Something to consider there to help mileage.

I still drive an '01, so forgive me for asking what may be obvious, but what does "M" do in your gear selector? Never seen or heard about that. I'm guessing manual mode?

            Btw, nice looking truck.

You put it in M and then have an up and down selector button on the shifter to choose what gear you want.

I've got an Uncle with the 4x4 Eco and he manages about 16 mpg at best. He has 35,000 miles on it now and has owned it about 7 months. Gets about half that with a boat behind it. small boat. Nice truck though.
Doing enough racing for 99% of the board!

Yea, it seems to be a mixed bag. Some get the mileage prescribed and some get a good amount less. It makes you wonder what factors might be causing that. One of my friends has an EB V6 Lariat 4x4 and towed a rather large trailer from DFW to North Dakota. He reported 11 to 12mpg. IMO that's pretty decent. He's getting about 20 in mixed driving but I've seen how he drives and he isn't exactly trying to get great mileage.

I think you'll end up regretting a cover and especially that rug liner.

IMHO, the BEST liner for a DIY'er/wood fondling person is the plastic ones. Regardless of high friction liner or not - everything should be strapped anyway. The plastic liner is easy load and unload as well as cleaning. Although, I most various lumber - I also haul sand, dirt, gravel, compressor, and other stuff.

Those bed covers ARE nice, but too Avalanche oriented for me. If you have a trailer and you're just using it to stow stuff, that's one thing. However, I think you'll get bored of removing/opening it everytime you want to put even a 1x2 in there.

Don't get me wrong, I hope you did right for yourself and it does look good. However, in my opinion nothing beats and open bed, plastic liner with a toolbox (storage/etc).

Anyway, not bashing or anything - just strongly disagree.

Not so sure about regretting the liner. I just got home with a small load of 2x8s and some plywood. I really didn't have any issue getting them into the bed. I could see having issues with some more rough cut lumber but even then it should load up Ok, going with the grain and lifting it out.

But you may be right about the tonneau cover. I went back and forth on which cover to get. I was considering a retractable cover and three different flip covers (Bak, Extang, and Undercover) I passed on the retractable covers, due to price and the fact that they have a container up at the front bulkhead that takes up bed space. I went with the Undercover because I like the attention to detail that they put into their design. I like that the cover doesn't rest against the rear of the cab when fully opened. Opening it isn't really that big of a deal, but I would have liked an exterior latch instead of having to open the tailgate.

So, at the end of the day, you could end up being right on that. We will just have to see after a few months of usage.

I have the rhino liner and soft bed covers on both our trucks and like them a lot. The cover on my wifes truck came off her old truck. The velcro doesn't hold the best anymore but its still in great shape.

So Beavis, are you still happy with the cover and the rug?

Anybody else have any new favorites for tonneau covers?

Not sure about the brand, but I helped jluv install a similar bed cover on his F250. It was a really nice set up, and pretty cool how it works.

I've had the bedrug and an undercover bed cover for about 1 year and they've both held up well Charles. The bedrug has been really easy to clean even after hauling a lot of greasy parts.
