A week and a half ago, Colorado college student Lexi DeForest was hiking in Wyoming when she broke her ankle. Broke it? The girl snapped it clean off. Seriously, dude, ow. She then proceeded to film herself commenting on the incident while awaiting rescue, keeping calm but with a clear edge of anxiety in her voice.

Humor, poking fun at the situation, carrying on as normal as possible — these are the tactics that keep destructive panic at bay. In this week’s AJ poll, What’s Your Best Adventure Quality, a lot of readers selected “cool under pressure” — DeForest is the embodiment of that.
