That place was wild, As a kid I came up with the idea it would be a cool to get a picture of Gene Snow as he left the line from the back. NOT a good idea, He threw what felt like 2 gallons of nitro on me and in my eyes, the bits of rubber hurt like a mofo.
I was picking bits of rubber off me for 1/2 hour.
They where a little forgiving on safety back then.

              lol
Had the nitro-eye more than once out there.

Also, "safety"? Their version of safety was flicking your ashes before refueling.

man, i can remember picking rubber off of me from standing behind the burnout area also. i remember looking at my buddy and laughing at him from all the rubber on him. he said "what the hell are you laughing at, look at you!".

i grew up a few streets from Frank Cook so i went to GV quite a bit because i "knew" his daughter..

If you guys didn't know, that name that's plastered on all of those cars - "Bill Hilscher" is Cindi's late father, the current owner of Texas Raceway. You can still see that 'vette at the BHRA races they have every August, They drive it in the parade.

My dad and uncle were both king of the valley a time or two.

Anybody remember when they were passing out flyers for the motorplex in 85? I was only 5 then but remember the place like it was yesterday.
Doing enough racing for 99% of the board!

I got the last trophy from Green Valley the day they closed. Only a pair of jet cars ran after me. I have all the memory stuff from that day packed away, sweat shirt, time slips, ect...
