pretty stupid to NOT have a guard rail there especially since it happened before.
main hoop collapsed over the passenger side.
To answer the question, most builders will put the main hoop further back on 4 door cars to allow for more room in the driver compartment and to allow the seats to be installed further back to balance the car. common in 2 doors as well that are nose heavy.
cage did ok considering. the one thing I think would have helped would be two crossbars on the main hoop instead of just the one but I might have missed it in the photos.
Oh, and those "nascar" bars are worthless in a side impact If they have a straight section or S bend between the hoop/a pillar and the outer bar, they fold like paper. FIA rally cages are MUCH better designs.
Glad they are OK but they need to take up golf.

wow, that's crazy. They should be a curve ahead sign up (poor attempt at humor). It's amazing they weren't seriously injured. I can't imagine what they were thinking when the car left the dirt. At least the muffler made it, I always liked the N1 muffler style. The pic with the car going off the cliff sideways will make someone an amazing background.
