  • 1962 Ferrari 250 GT California

I think I might want to build one of these as a kit car some day. Cobras are cool, but there are a lot of them around compared to one of these and this thing in red just looks tough as hell. It would just be a fun cruiser and this companies chassis looks like a pretty decent package on paper. I bet it would even sound good and be pretty damn quick with a late model 3.7 V6 from a '11+ mustang. Maybe $30K total if you did all yourself and gave it a drivers paint job?

    The real thing

That would be tits if done right! Something about the car in their gallery looks a little off to me, maybe a little fatter tire would set it off.

Yeah I've been busy reading the internets and it looks like Ferrari has run some companies into the court room over these kits. I just fired off an e-mail to CalSpyder to see if the still are in business. Looks like they are more $$$ than I was thinking though. I wish FFR would build them. The grill and front end is just a little bit different than the originals.

It was also a repro/kit car.

Why? The car in Ferris Bueller was a Corvette. So was the black Daytona convert in Miami Vice.

Seeing it? No issues there. Hearing it? That's a different story. It wouldn't be exactly the same, but I'd have to imagine it wouldn't be unreasonably difficult to put a V12 out of a 400i into one of those kit cars. It would be more expensive initially (although 400is aren't particularly expensive themselves) as would the maintenance, but it'd be interesting and sound a little less wrong.

I decided to build the coupe from www.factoryfive.com because it is the closest I can get to a 62 ferrari coupe.

For serious? I've always idolized the ferris ferrari.

Then you should be happy to know that they didn't wreck the real deal!

It's still the design that you've idolized, though. It's just not THE real deal.
