  • Mark VIII "barn find"

    http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/07...viii.html#more

The story has it that the original owner was forced for an unspecified reason to quit driving, only three months and 3,415 miles (5,495 km) after he had purchased the car brand new from a Lincoln dealer. Instead of selling it, he choice to lock it up in his garage where it remained until earlier this year.

After its recent unearthing, the large Lincoln Coupe found its way on eBay, where it is currently listed for sale by a Bucyrus, Ohio-based dealer, who says the car is in pristine condition.

"The inside of this car looks as good as any new car on a show room floor and smells brand new. The under carriage of the car is dry and rust free," said the dealer.

"So as not to destroy the just discovered time capsule, we have chosen not to wash the dust of the last 19 years off, but leave the beautiful paint underneath to be discovered by its new owner."

According to the seller, the 280hp 4.6-liter V8-powered 1993 Lincoln had a base price US$36,890, but this example was fitted with several options including a mobile phone ($690), CD/Changer ($833), moonroof ($1,550), JBL Audio ($576) and traction control ($222), which along with a handling and delivery fee lifted the MSRP to $41,004 before tax.

Last time we checked on eBay, there were 20 bids for the car, the highest standing at $6,20 with four days left for the auction.

Does appear to be pushed in...

I am not buying what they are selling. First off, that car looks like it has more miles than what they are saying. Second off, why not just wash the damned thing and make it look good? Unless the paint is FUBAR and they know it.

                  I'd give $800 for it.

No shit. That was a ton of scratch back then, for that car. Brand new '93 cobras were in the high teens.

The previous owner probably hit somebody with it and then locked it away to hide the evidence.

Agreed. It'd be especially shitty because your odds of stumbling across another barn find are even lower than the odds of the first one, and you wasted it on this shit.

I took a much later model Mark VIII for a drive a few years ago because it was much like this one, extremely low miles and in great condition. It was slow as shit, couldn't imagine how they made it so slow with a cobra motor in it. Absolutely do not want.
