  • "Teal Terror" at Atlanta Motorsports Park

Open Track Connection joined Track Guys this past weekend at the brand new Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, GA. What a great track. It was finally completed 8 weeks ago. Always fun to explore a new track.

I will have to say.....that besides Hallett Motor Racing Circuit.....this was the funnest, most technical track I have been on. Did I say "technical". Wow....you are busy, busy driving on this one. Enjoy!

Pretty bad ass. Track looks like a lot of fun!

I so miss track events. My buddies have been kickin my butt to get back into it again. Maybe I'll do a little suspension and minor brake work to my daily and go play.

This has ALWAYS interested me. What do these parks charge? Is it a half/full day price, pay per lap, etc?

Most of the time either a club gets together to rent the track out for a day or a weekend, or a big organization has a track day event.

Either way, I have seen entry fees be from $100 a day to as much as $250 a day.

I don't know if it is still this way, but used to you had a 20 minute time period of being on the track with others of similar speed to you. Novice run groups were required to have instructors ride along with them until the driver proved he knew what he was doing, and he then got advanced to the beginner run group. You also had advance run groups, and full on race run groups all depending on driver skill and vehicle capability.

For example, I ran a Hyundai Accent in the same run group as Mustangs, Camaros, Porsches, BMWs, and similar cars. The other cars in my run group obviously exceeded the driver's capabilities.

They are typically 1 or 2 day events. Ranging from $200 per day to $450 for the weekend. Open Track Connection also offers private instruction for around the same prices......and you get one on one instruction with minimal traffic on the track.

Sorry, my daily is wrong wheel drive. I tried racing a rear wheel drive car and it just didn't work out(spent more time off the track or sideways then going where I wanted to go). Driving a front wheel drive car around a track fast comes natural to me for some weird reason.

Sorry to hear it......probably all in the suspension.......it usually is. It's not about horsepower...its about getting it to the pavement.

Forgot to say in the post that I was short shifting on turn 13....there is a sound ordinance there. 98DB at 50 Ft from the track. Had to pull the "boom tube" and put the x pipe and mufflers back on. So needless to say....I was running 1:32's and shoulda been running 1:30's. Oh well. the sweeper was AWESOME!!

Damn that was awesome. I done a few open track events with SVT when I first got the Lightning but throwing a 5000lb brick is tough on brakes. Cooked the pads 1.5 laps in at Hallett.

I wish I could afford to get a track specific car setup- that looks like a ton of fun!!

                            Ever done Road Atlanta?

did you ever upgrade the brakes?

I'd love to bring one of our cars there but the noise limit thing is an issue. No way the camaro could go there but the mustang might be ok now that it has mufflers.

I'd love to go to their next event coming up but that is a long haul. It's 10 hours to birmingham from here...not sure about atlanta.

Nice flowing track, love the elevation changes and baby butt smooth. bet it had tons of grip!
