I have to agree. Put the top up on the Miata, and I bet it will be closer. I realized this while highway racing back in the day with my gtek pro.

I bet the miata would make 580 with an auto.

My guess would be this also. The Miata with the top down is at a serious disadvantage as the speed goes up.

The top probably won't handle that mph .

It helps on the low end of speed. I'd say anything 100+ is a wash and power takes over.

To say it has no effect would be foolish, but it doesn't bear as much of a difference as is does once the jump is made. A lighter car with less power will jump out and then be reeled in by the heavier more powerful car.

And 2890 w/ driver! ? Yack! That's almost the same weight as my coupe. I'm only 100lbs more.
Mike, you are wrong. Weight ALWAYS matters in an acceleration contest, doesn't matter what speed you start at or race up to. Put 5 people in your car and do some 50-100 pulls, and then 100-140. Drop friend's off and repeat...

That Miata has an 8.8 rear end if my memory serves me right.

That makes sense, but doesnt change the fact he's trying to put 700+hp down through 225 tires

I think a lighter car takes less traction to accelerate because it isn't pushing as much weight. Sort of like sliding a fridge across a floor, you may need better shoes to get grip vs trying to slide an empty box.

Miata owner also has NT-01s which are like fly paper.
