  • Anyone here use a Kamado Joe smoker??

Anyone here have one of these?? Wife entered a contest at Texas Roadhouse and won the damn thing. I've never used a smoker before, so was looking for some tips...

Looks like kin of the big green egg, that several members have raved about.

3000 year old oriental design apparently.

I have an Egg, just got it so still adjusting. Will say I will never go back to gas....

Couple tips that I can give:
Lump Charcoal only. Cowboy lump at Lowes and Big Green Egg brands have been the best ao far
No lighter fluid, get an electric starter or use starter sticks

You're going to love it, I've got an egg and use it several times a week. Like chopped said lump coal no lighter fluid, I use a mapp gas torch to get mine started. Go to the egghead forum, there is a ton of info on there and whatever works on the egg will work on yours.

Be sure and get a pizza stone

Yeah, if it works like the Big Green Egg, You will fall in love with it. Only use Raw lump charcoal. That sir is a $500.00 plus win.

I use an electric starter for mine. That way i can season my stuff while it heats up for quick meals

Just use the big green egg site for cooking tips. See if you can download a cook book for the egg.

I like the concept of the egg but I don't like the limited cook surface. My offset smoker has 1000 sqin cook surface and I want more than that.
