  • David Coulthard catches 178mph golf ball in Mercedes-Benz SLS

British pro golfer Jake Shepherd and former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard have teamed up to set a Guinness World Record for the “furthest golf shot caught in a moving car.”

The feat took place on an airport runway, where Shepherd teed off just as Coulthard sped by him in a $200,000 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster supercar.

The ball took off at 178 mph and travelled 275 meters as Coulthard positioned his car directly below it while travelling at a speed of 120 mph and the ball landed right in the middle of the car’s seats.

Technically not a hole in one, as the pair took several tries to pull it off, the video of the publicity stunt released today is nevertheless sure to be a viral hit.

Looks like it was at the Top Gear test track?

Didn't they do this on the American version as well? It looks mighty familiar but with a different golfer.

Would have been more impressive if he caught it with his hand.

          That's ghey.

The ball was at the end and no where travelling at 170+ mph. Catching a golf ball on it's dying trajectory is just not impressive IMHO.

Now if he had caught up to it and overtaken it while it was just shot, that would have been impressive.

If you knew anything about the technical aspects of hitting a driver (the golf club, not the guy behind the wheel) you'd understand how precise that driver (car) had to be.

Well not to mention looking at the sky trying to no loose complete control of the car at 60+ miles an hour can't be easy.

The ball leaves the club @ 176-182, so it's ahead of him. I ASSuME that the driver watches it off the tee, gets under it, and then attempts to decelerate with the drag on the golf ball. Golf balls don't fly perfectly straight, so the reality is that he has to maneuver around with the trajectory in addition to matching the ball's parabolic shape and speed makes it an extremely difficult task.

                            LMFAO.

                            Really?

                            Nothing.

                            Nothing at all?

Just working out the accuracy to have a car doing 100+mph and be in a 3'x3' area 300 yds away at a precise moment without computer controls of throttle/speed is impressive.

Then throw in the inherent inconsistency of a human swinging a club with the slightest wind gust getting in the way...

I suppose in the end it's just y = ax 2 + bx + c... works on paper, what could change in the real world. Simple shit.

                            Yeah, that's bush league.
                            is this another troll attempt?
