Saw this and it bugged me. Simple. The guy baited the cops to get this video IMHO. What's your thoughts? Really it makes it hard these day for good LEO to be nice when you have pricks like this waisting their time. The officer did a great job keeping his composure. Not sure I'd be able to. I'd have disassembled the slide and emptied the mag and handed it back.

I was detained by Portland PD officer J McDonald on 26MAY2012. He detains me without suspicion of any criminal activity in violation of Delaware v Prouse. He...

Hey ... I didn't eat no stinking corn.

you pretty much nailed it, it was some punk who wanted attention from the cops and got it, then posted the video with the full purpose of FTP

besides, i think open carry is dumb and i wouldn't do it or vote for it

If the guy was following the law then what's the problem?

Sounds like the guy that is video taping knows the law. I wish more people would respond this way for one reason. The fewer people that do this, the more of a police state we get into. There MUST be people out there that stand up for the law, and what they believe in otherwise we as a society are doomed. It may just be too late though.
Annoying people, one post at a time!

The last thing any LEO wants or cares about are case citations. While I understand some LEO might be familiar with the cases, they are not lawyers out there to debate the finer elements of the courts' opinions.

Unfortunately, the behavior that was reported is important.

The guy is right, and this happens all of the time. Open carry groups face constant negative dealings with police because police feel obligated to make contact which starts the confrontation.

I see your point. But this is the second vid this guy has done. One other he did was with a unloaded weapon. You do the math

reminds me of this guy that used to rent out a room from me. spoiled little shit that just started law school, thinks he knows everything and argues about everything. Annoyed the shit out me. He gets in trouble frequently so he's not as smooth as the guy in the vid lol

Both sides have valid points. In my opinion the host of the problem was right, but I have learned in life you can be right and you can be dead right. He could have got his ass killed over human reaction. Sometimes I really hate people trying to prove a point.

The officer said they had gotten calls about the guy. His behavior as described in the calls was not explained. There could have been reason to detain based on the info from the caller(s), but we don't know.

hats off to this guy for knowing his rights and not being afraid of the pigs when questioned. question authority because 99% of the time the "authority" ( in this case cops ) are pouncing on your rights!!!!

If you're legal then theres nothing to worry about. Oblige the officers, show you're proper ID showing you are legal to carry, and go about your fucking way. No need in being a smartass douchbag.

Based on the officer's refusal to establish reason for the stop, it would seem that the behavior wasn't inflammatory enough. It would seem that just rolling by in the cruiser to evaluate the situation might have been sufficient, EXCEPT that the cop was probably just trying help the guy find a reason to take his cause elsewhere by making contact and wasting some of the guy's time.

Actually, I was pretty impressed with the officer's reaction and the way they dealt with the situation. These guys that make video's to "prove a point" appear a little too self-righteous, and as mentioned before, LEO's are typically NOT attorney's. Was the guy carrying the gun wrong? No. Just stirring the pot.
