Hey guys, so like some of the guys here you probably watch Top Gear, and on season 14 they did a special finding the best possible road to drive on. They found it and by their opinion its in Romania called the Transfagarasan road (trans-faga-rasch-an) pronounced. It connects Fagaras and Curte de Arges, trough the lower Carpathian mountains. It is about 110 Kilometers long but the most interesting part is where it nears Fagaras as it has hairpin turns and knuckle bruising non protected roads. It's awesome, and in case you haven't seen the video here is a clip.
and here is the top gear special.
Anyways to get to the point, my girlfriend is Romanian, and as some of you know I am staying in Europe. We went on holiday to see the folks and decided we should take to Curte de Arges and drive on this legendary road.
We started on the south after bring in Bran and drove for a very long 4 hours for 200km through mountains and shitty Romanian roads, until we arrived in Curte de Arges. I was driving my girlfriends Romanian Dacia which is basically a 1.4 liter Renault Clio. But driving it up and down that mountain made me feel like a formula 1 racer. Ive never had any rush like that before and I can say I would like to climb it again in a super car. I saw plenty of Bikes and people camping around the summit and elsewhere. It was also freezing cold at the top regardless of being 100+ degrees at the bottom of the mountain. Crazy nature. Anywho I enjoyed this experience to the fullest. We started off at Balea Lac which is an artificial lake and around the whole perimiter until we reached the mountains. Instead of writing a thousand words, I felt that pictures would suffice. Here are some but keep in mind that these pictures cant tell you the awesomeness of it. And the mountains seem also small whilst being a ginormous titan of earth in person.
Balea Lac
The dam
A natural spring from the road, the water tastes like the tit of the mountain, nothing so fresh, cold, or clean.
