The transmission tunnel will be wider on the factory 402 truck.

Other than checking the VIN, no way to tell for sure. If it has 400 fender badges, and they're original to the truck, then it had the 396/400/402 big block in it.

VIN only says if it was a 4/6/8 cylinder. Nothing specific that I can see

You might be right, it's been a while since I messes with Chevy. I was thinking it had a displacement digit in there somewhere.

It has some good options with the AC, tach, and tilt (characteristic of a Cheyenne), but the big block only helps its value really if it was originally a BBC. I see it is still a 6-lug, which most likely means it also has 4-wheel drums on it….there were some 6-lug discs, but they are rare. Got a pretty grungy engine compartment, but it’s a good color combo and real nice looking interior without a cut dash (that steering wheel is WAY out of place). Overall I’d say it’s a nice driver, but of course hard to tell from just pics too. Remember that cab corners, rockers, outer floors, and cowl are all common areas of rust…as well as the battery tray and passenger side core support…so check those areas closely for issues and/or quality of previous repairs. Considering no real big surprises, I’d price that one in the $13K-$15K range….expect a dealer to be asking high teens for it.

If you recall my blue 68’ that has been posted out here numerous times….it went for $18K with a tired BBC in it, and that has been several years ago. I’d gladly give $18K to have it back today, though.
There is a short wide on south cooper in Arlington. About the same color as the one in your Sig. Not sure of the drive train but the sign said $16k.

If it's a factory BBC truck it will have a heat shield on the pass side of the cab floor to protect the cab from exhaust heat, dual hangars for exhaust on the rear frame rails, high hump(trans tunnel) and specific motor mounts and transmission linkage. If it checks out legit I say 12-15k.

*edit* That's not the correct style power steering. It would have a pump mounted on the engine and a remote reservoir.

My bad, Barry. I brain farted on the 402 detail. I just assumed when it said, "400 big block," it was an SBC. I'm terrible with Chevy engines, anyway.

Just curious why the 69-70 trucks don't do well? It seems weird cause they fall right in the middle of the production years for the body style (serious quesiton).

Hey, i brain farted too. You don't run across a BBC 400 everyday. I was not 100 percent sure myself.

If its a factory BB truck it is worth $13-16k all day depending on condition. With paper work and or matching numbers it could be more. Funny I just had the exact same truck a month or two ago.

I've always been a Ford guy but I've always loved those late 60's early 70's trucks.
