  • 1970 swb Chevy CST 10 400

Above , 400 big block, factory air, ps, pb, factory in dash tach, tillt steering, 400 big block/ 400 trans. What is top dollar you would pay for this truck? My brother is looking at it and after searching trucks with every thing this has. They are higher than I thought.

    Thoughts?

Not sure on price, but it looks like a very nice truck. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say around $10k?

I'm guessing he's asking less than 15k for it.

If I were a prepared buyer I would jump on $10k if it was solid, straight, and sound.

Technically, it's a 402, but the factory called them 400's on the fender badges.

Hopin you would catch that. I have a 400sbc in my garage. The valve covers are not near as big as what is on that truck. That is a big block...396 ?

                        Found it.

Introduced in 1970, the 402-cubic-inch (6.6 L) was a 396-cubic-inch bored out by 0.030 in (0.76 mm). Despite the fact that it was 6 cubic inches (98 cc) larger, Chevy continued marketing it under the popular "396" label in the smaller cars while at the same time labeling it "Turbo-Jet 400" in the full-size cars. The 402 label was used in Light Pickup Trucks

69-70 tend to hold less value than the 67-68 and the 71-72. Cheyenne trucks always do well, and while that one has the Cheyenne trim on it, it may not be an actual Cheyenne truck….the SPID inside the glove box door will tell you (if it's still there). It has some good options with the AC, tach, and tilt (characteristic of a Cheyenne), but the big block only helps its value really if it was originally a BBC. I see it is still a 6-lug, which most likely means it also has 4-wheel drums on it….there were some 6-lug discs, but they are rare. Got a pretty grungy engine compartment, but it’s a good color combo and real nice looking interior without a cut dash (that steering wheel is WAY out of place). Overall I’d say it’s a nice driver, but of course hard to tell from just pics too. Remember that cab corners, rockers, outer floors, and cowl are all common areas of rust…as well as the battery tray and passenger side core support…so check those areas closely for issues and/or quality of previous repairs. Considering no real big surprises, I’d price that one in the $13K-$15K range….expect a dealer to be asking high teens for it.

If you recall my blue 68’ that has been posted out here numerous times….it went for $18K with a tired BBC in it, and that has been several years ago. I’d gladly give $18K to have it back today, though.

Is there a way to confirm if it had a 400 originally?
