Is it me or is it difficult to fly something you can barely see? Stuff seems to take more skill than most people would realize.

I'm just nit picking here but the X-1 was never carried under the wing. It was nested into the fuselage. Half of it was in the bomb bay, the other half exposed. This model has it under the wing..

I'll stick to my offroad buggies and trucks...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

While you are right, I'm sure it would have compromised the rc planes aerodynamics too much to make it accurate.

As I recall (from tv documentaries), they lifted the B up to position the X-1 in place.

Yep, looks like ground clearance was an issue. It may have been an add-on after the initial build, taller landing gear would have been the thing to use in the build. And mounting under the wing made for a less complicated build too, no bomb door needed.

In the beginning there was a "loading pit" that the X-1 was in and the B-29 taxied over it.

Later they went to hydraulics to lift the B-29. At one point they had hydraulic rams that came up out of the tarmac under the wheels.

Should have made the B-29 a B-52A... and made the X-1 an X-15... and then they would have had it right. hahaaaa

Toss a D12 in that X15 and let her rip.

Next to the SR-71, the X-15 is my favorite bird. Pure badassness right there.....and bad motherfucker wallets to all "X" pilots.
