I wish this site had a "like" button. I'm the one that posted up about seeing you and your brother pulling them down 35 near downtown Dallas. These rides are the real deal!

I have wondered the same thing, I have Kyle's old hatch that I plan on making a CMC car, my biggest concern is the heavy ass hatch and the fact that it would raise the CG. I wonder if it's worth it to switch to a coupe.

I guess that depends on whether or not you care to do a 4cyl conversion. I see 4 banger coupes all the time.

The lack of modifications and real race parts not allowed in cmc is far more limiting than the different cg. If you are that concerned, I would get an sn95 or 1999-2004 with an aluminum 2v. Building any fox to be competitive is a PiTA compared to an Sn95 especially when trying to get track width. You have to put all the sn95 parts on the fox anyway AND the fox Aero sucks, hatch or notch. Figure in the fox rear pickup points are weak and you can't reinforce them and yyou are in a new tub anyway.

If I were building for cmc right now it would nOT be a fox.

I would love to run my current car out at Cresson and also another DOHC car that I picked up a while back. Shit seems like a blast and would like to see how both cars would do...

Actually you can reinforce them now, they have a rule update for it.
You are probably tired of all the CMC stuff I am spatting out, I am just looking at the results, Mosty is tearing it up in his fox coupe, everyone else up top is in a chebby

You posted a while back and said to "run what you know" or something along those lines, I almost have enough stuff laying around to build a fox or a sn95 (5.0) cmc car, I figured I would build a fox because of the power/weight advantage. I have all of the sn95 stuff to get the track width where it needs to be on a fox.

Never tired of helping people make smart decisions.

I said stick with what you know when you mentioned an fbody. To your point, Mosty is a hell of a driver and has six years of development under his belt and the high dollar AST shocks. Most of the other foxes have been mid pack cars at best. If you look at Gunter's sn99 that I built, it is as fast or faster and the driver is still learning racecraft and on a part time schedule. At these low power levels, the Aero advantages of the fbody and sn95/99 put the fox at a disadvantage. You also have issues making it to track width in a fox without spreading the quarters and adding flares. Sn95 requires far less work and expense/time in the initial build.....which equals cost savings. The stiffer chassis is also a plus. Keep in mind the newest fox you can buy is 20 years old.....with a baked wiring harness. All those old parts and years of abuse will cause you to chase your ass on a race weekend. Start with as fresh a car as you can afford. It will save you headaches and a lot of dollars down the road.

Having both an fbody and a mustang, I think the car to have is the sn99 with the aluminum 2v. Better weight distribution and much more usable rpm range with the option to use more reliable parts for high rpm life on track. The s197 is THE car to have but they really reined them in after last year.

Just have to figure out how competitive you want to be, then we can chat seriously over a few beers and a notebook

Hatchback cars are just more plentiful/cheaper. Hell we ditched the entire hatch assembly and 1/3 of the windshield in our $500 car...

I know the Griggs WL setup is the business, but is there SLA setup no good?

Whether my buddy racing spec miatas or other people running higher horsepower cars, it never gets old watching those videos...even gets the heart pumping.

Wish I could afford that addiction.
