  • A Story about Race - Neil deGrasse Tyson

The more I watch this guy the more I want to meet him. I wish he had more videos on YouTube because I have officially watched all of them...

I don't think I've ever heard him speak on things like this before. Did you watch his keynote speech from The Amazing Meeting 6? It's entitled "Brain Droppings of an Astrophysicist" it's pretty damn funny.

Edit: You ninja edited, mind posting the video/article? I want to hear his take as well.

I agree with what was said above. He doesn't play into those sort of things. At least I haven't picked up on anything like that in all the videos I have watched.

That's what makes him so catching, and interesting to listen to though. He doesn't play into all that non-sense, strictly science.

I was watching what was posted above, realized that it was race based, and not his normal dissertation, and edited my post in case he went there.

I would still like to hear his take on the Trayvon/Zimmerman deal, though his application of logic will get him labelled an "uncle Tom" by the black community.

What struck me in this video was his statement of nobody claiming to be "as smart as a black man." I have my opinion of the succubus of society, and a good number may be black, but I have never qualified any race as less intelligent. All it takes is a single conversation to know that I am talking to an intelligent human being.

Neil is awesome, and I am thankful that his focus is using his gifts to help others, and further break down the race wall.

He attributes a lot of that to Carl Sagan. He gave him a personal tour of Cornell's lab, personally drove him and invited into his home.

I think this video reflects that impact and speaks volume about his character too: (watch the end as his agents keep pushing him along and he continues to sign books)

He was so excited about the topic, that he had trouble signing. We have a separation of church and state, and there should be a separation of church and science. Those that believe can explain or deny, based on their religion. I wholeheartedly believe that religion should have no effect on science.

He is passionate about speaking out. I have found out though, if you watch enough videos you hear a lot of things repeated.

Our personal knowledge and and experience is finite, he can only speak about what he knows, and has seen.

As expanded as his knowledge is compared to you and I, we don't know shit about the universe.

I watch the worm hole shows narrated by Morgan Freeman, and it's clear that they are postulating about a lot, and hoping it proves true.

The thing I like is that he is deeply passionate about what he says and does in a manner that is very logical and diplomatic. Most people passionate about their belief structure go out of their way to shit on others belief structures and he doesn't do that.

If you are shitting on others beliefs, then you aren't certain of your own. Ego will kill science as quick as it has killed religion.

I spent 30 years of my life in Texas, that will not leave me. You made my point with the above statement.

Big ego/religion does not allow for condescending information. The base of science is to build on the information gained.
