And it isn't a corvette thing.
Originally it started with the private owned grand sports back in the 60's with bands over the nose to tell the cars apart, first time the over the fender hashes were used was on the grand sport in '96. You can argue their origin, but to say it isn't a "corvette" thing is pretty disingenuous, google fender stripes, hashes, whatever you like - you'll get nothing but corvette hits. It's most associated with corvettes.

Maybe you didn't read what I typed. It's most associated with corvettes. I saw you setting up your little troll a while ago.

I see the ninja edit now, damn you!!

From Shelby supposedly: "In the early days of FIA and SCCA, team cars would be painted similar colors. The fender stripes were a means of identification when the cars would be zipping down the front straight at over 120 MPH. This was prior to 2-way radio communication and when the pit crew would stand at the front straight wall and hold up signs to notify drivers of their positon, lap times or to pit etc."

Right. I'm just saying they are most associated with corvettes. I would say the two stripes over the fender is a "corvette thing" now with the grand sports making it mainstream.

I agree, the non-informed will forever call them corvette stripes.
