I caught a home run by Jim Leyritz at the old Arlington Stadium during batting practice. I didn't move an inch, just reached up with my glove and got it. Had him sign it for me the next time the Yankees were in town and it is sitting on my bookcase. There were 2 kids standing next to me when I caught it. I sure hope they don't remember me as the mean teenager that didn't give them a ball I caught fair and square.

If they did, I hope that memory drove them to improve their catching skills and reaction speed

There has to be second place and loosers in this world. This would have been a fine lesson that either he needs to grow up and catch his own balls or dad needs to do better job at both catching AND parenting.

Fixed and it is a right of passage to learn how to cuss and smell like stale beer at a baseball game. Not getting your way is not part of the lesson plan.

Personally, if I get the ball thrown to me or catch a foul/HR, I would probably just take a pic and then look for a kid to give it to. I'm not giving it to the kid just because he started crying.

Now, if it is a memorable ball(record breaker, etc) it's staying with me.

I didn't realize balls were so valuable. I can understand a home run ball or something significant but a foul ball or caught ball tossed in the crowd? When someone comes over are you going to show them the ball and say "I caught this baby off Mike Napoli before he struck out on the next pitch"? I'd give away a ball to a kid not because they're crying but because it's basically worthless. You can catch it and high five your bros and then throw it away and your life wouldn't be any different.

as mentioned by others, if it is a game winning homer or something equivalent then keep it. but if it's just a no biggie foul/homer then give it to the kid

Such a tough choice. I have been going to games since Arlington stadium times and have only ONCE touched a foul ball tossed into the stands in batting practice.... In Washington last year.

I almost got killed by a foul ball in the Ballpark, but it bounced about a mile away (loud thud), and came three rows away from a Cal Ripken jr home run.

I only want ONE baseball from a game/BP. I hope, that I never have a situation like that where a kid goes ballistic and get ripped by the media and social media. I guess it could be worse. Steve Bartman......

They had the bull pen catcher on the radio this morning, he said he wouldn't give a ball to a begging kid or a cry baby it not like they plowed the kid over to get it either now thats different lol . But IMO give the ball to the kid.

The news is making a big deal about it and blowing it way out of proportion. The kid cried, so what. Maybe his parents should've actually tried to get the ball for him. I wouldn't have given it to a crying kid no matter how it got there.
