Okay...explain all the above to me...a non-military person. Only person that's been in the military was my grandfather who was 101st Airborne (one of the crazies that jumped behind enemy lines)

Retreat is played at sundown (or 1700 on some bases) when they lower the Flag.. In uniform you stop and salute all others stop and render honors like you would the national anthem. It is played at 0800 when the flag is raised

That was awesome! There is hope yet for our future.

I can proudly say I never once dodged colors.

Reveille is played at 0800 damn I have been in the Army almost 15 years and it has always been 0630 and retreat at 1700...... My national past time is crushing Soldiers for not stopping their vehicles and getting out or ducking back into a building that shit irks me!

we've never been taught to get out of our cars(safety I guess) just stop your car and sit at a respectable position.

Reveille is separate from colors. I may have used the wrong term for the evening version. At sea reveille is at 0600 " heave out and trice up" and all that nautical stuff. Reveille means wake up colors is put the flag up. Every base has its wrinkles as to when. I had to laugh at Bottlerockets post with members saluting a blue sticker... I salute an officer with pride never a car. Or worse some spouse wearing the hubbies rank driving said car.

Yep just stop and "sit at attention" whatever that may be. I love to see security zoom in front of some asshat who does not stop and make them wait and I hope learn why.

I had to do the same to come base cop. Navy figures its better to hire GS employees instead of having actual Navy personnel as the base cops. Anyway, asshole was just driving by the golf course (we were playing golf and colors was playing) and had to yell at the dude to pull over lol

When I was stationed in NC people would catch hell for not saluting the blue stickers. I still do it here on this base. Force of habit I guess. My biggest bitch is it's nearly impossible to see some of the stickers depending on where they are positioned and I hate the thought of saluting some wives that have the thought process that they hold the same rank as their husband.

That shit out east of Marine wives drove me fuckin nuts. Thinking they could talk to you however and tell you what to do based on what rank their husband held.

What?! Thats a real thing? Why the fuck do you salute a passing vehicle? We have to salute staff cars (O-6 and up with the front staff car plate/flag) but thats it.

Shit I even was walking past the NEX last week 40 or so feet behind some Ensign. A Marine private was walking the opposite direction with a rather large cardboard container, but he stopped, put it down, saluted and picked it up to resume walking. Then right before he got to me he almost did the same thing. I stopped him and just told him to keep going lol. I was just going for lunch, he was actually doing something. Don't see the point

Some people get all bent out of shape about it. I've seen some retarded shit while in civies. A LCPL carrying a shit load of stuff out of the Commissary with his wife and a younger than him LT getting bent out of shape cause he didn't salute him..............while carrying an arm load of groceries. Not much I could do I was just a lowly LCPL too at the time. I'd probably say something now that I've been in a bit longer and have higher rank.

Sir are you sure about your choice of a career? Common sense can be a killer in the O ranks... I kid I kid....

I pulled one this morning though watching them put up the Texas flag. About once a month here they try and put it up upside down. We watch every morning from the 3rd deck. They got it about 3/4s of the way up before we yelled at them to turn it over. God staff duty can be slow.
