After some careful research, I am coming close to an engine decision. I am thinking I'll just go with a 5.0L EFI and T5. Only real challenge I see in that is the A/C compressor and Power steering, but I think I can work around that. In the mean time, I will likely just swap in a T5 behind the 351 while I gather the parts I need for the engine swap.

Ok, floor pans are in. Keep in mind that this is literally the first welding project I have ever done.

Walks the floor a bit, I am sure it needs new bushings on the front end.
Bet on tie-rod ends (at least the outers), upper/lower ball joints, and strut rod bushings.

You mean the frame rail extensions? Already done, just from under the car.

Took it on a bumpy road tonight. Strut rod bushings seem like a safe bet from all the rattling I heard. The front end is next on my hit list.

It's not a tough job (or too expensive), but it sure will make the car ride nice.

Previous car was an MN12 thunderbird, if I can rebuild the front end on that fucker, this should be a cake walk.

You may go back and reweld them to the front frame rails. There doesnt seem to be penetration through the metal. There should be some bubbling paint or something when it burns in the metal. Another option is to drill a small hole through one layer and plug weld it.

I will go back and do the fronts, I did it on the very back of the frame rail, under the seat land.

I have to put new floor pans in my '71 Mustang, mine are nasty.

I really love the look of your Cougar, something about that dusty hood and chrome in those pics just looks bad-ass.

I figured it out, reminds me of this:
