  • New Factory Five 818

This thing looks badass. WRX motor/trans base, RWD, and 1800 lbs., and an estimated completed build cost of $15,000.

My friend and I will be building one.

The 818S makes the cover of Kit Car Builder Magazine with a full road test/eval, October 2013 issue on newsstands…

If 15k is a true number, that's a damn bargain. Not sure if my ass would fit in one though.

That picture you posted is the third place winner, first place is hideous!! I was all about it untill I saw the concept pics, there were a couple good looking cars but the majority were really ugly.

The specs are impressive though, I would love to build a $15k 1800lbs car with a subbie motor. As long as it doesnt look like the cars they showed, although I really liked Jeff Teague's concept at 3:45

I LIKE! Not really a fan of the boxer 4 though. Maybe they used it for the low center of gravity??? IDK, I didn't watch the video as I'm at work.

Both 2nd and 3rd are acceptable. Seems like they only have the chassis done. Actually, seems like they don't even have that done.

I don't think they do. The design on their website seems like they are actually going to produce the third place winner. I hope so because that's the one I like most. They say it will be available this year or next.

I dont know why they would use 3rd place, they had a contest and logic says 1st place is the design.

That one you posted reminds me of the speedracer Mach 5

I wanna know when this is available. I will buy one if the $15k figure is accurate.

Well, now that I'm caught up with last year, I think I want to build one as well. That thing looks sweet!

Needs a roof and more chassis. IF that is the final chassis design, it will told in half in a frontal impact. Without a roof, it will not likely pass the broomstick test for most track day organizations and you are left with a nice toy for the street only. I also seriously doubt you will find a subie driveline for a decent price these days and that $15k total parts prices seems REALLY low. Considering everyone that ever builds a F5 car starts with a budget of X and ends up spending between 2X and 4X to finish it....I'm skeptical. I love the idea and effort. REALLY like the 818R design if it had a roof. It will be interesting to see what rolls off the factory floor

If 15k holds, I will talk my wife into this.

no doubt...i always hear all of these low figures to build one, but that never seems to hold true. i've talked to a few people with those ac cobra kit cars, and they all have stories about how they spent 4-5 times what they were expecting to spend. i'm sure that you could get closer, if you've already built one and you know exactly what you need, though...or if you lucked into an extremely clean donor car for dirt cheap.

I agree with you, however I think peoples impatience plays a big deal in how much they spend. If you're a patient person you can build anything for half of what most wallet warriors will spend.
