That guy has some skills and is ballsy. If that pack took a dump over the water there was no hope of autorotating it to saftey.

Alot of the the aerial photography guys do it first person view style so they fly using the camera sending a live feed. I dont think he did since he used a gopro though. I imagine it would be easier doing alot of those shots FPV but I could be wrong. The biggest issue I had learning helis was reversing my inputs depending on which way the nose was pointing. It seems FPV would fix that.

He said it was a risk of it going in the water. It was a short notice shoot otherwise he would have installed a floatation device. Of course that would only save the heli .... The expensive electronics would be done for...:.

My boss was told by the hobby shop guys to basically zip tie sections of those flotation "noodles" from wally world to the landing gear. That way if it goes int the drink, you can retrieve it and don't have to assemble another, just replace the water-damaged parts.

I think there are real floats made specifically for those larger helis, but the noodles are cheaper.

Szabo is an absolute beast flying those helicopters.

I assumed he was on the boat controlling that thing. That takes some amazing skill!

Yea he was on the boat which in my mind is a feat in itself let alone keeping the boat in view of the camera....

Both Alan and his little brother are fucking badass flyers.

They have vids all over you tube. Hell, they make their crashes look good.
