If it's a GTA, then yeah it's a TPI, but if it's just a Trans Am, it can be the LO3 TBI. The 5.0L TPI is 89 was 190HP with the auto tranny, 220HP with the 5 speed.

I remember my first good race as Mustang owner - My brand new 92' GT vs. the 92' Trans Am across Rowlett Bridge. I Think I beat him by about a car length in that short distance. 20 years ago.....damn, time flies.

Yes, at 1200rpm and then descends through the famous ski jump torque curve. Great for pulling stumps out of the ground.

The average time I could find for a TA was in 89 at 15.5 The average for a fox was 14.8 in 89 gt. The F bodies always felt better on the road as far as handling goes, but making it go in straight line, you found out how big of a pig, it really was.

Plus that strange fuel pump issue. I owned an 89 IROC Z that wouldn't turn the fuel pump on if it was warmed up. Plus the TPI's eat sensors for some reason.

Clean Iroc. I'm partial to the Pontiac version myself, but very clean nonetheless.

i had a 83' that with the 5.0 fuel injected(tbi) with an od auto. it was like the one pictured but was dark blue with the honeycomb wheels painted the same color as the car. it was not fast but since it was light it took off pretty decent and handled like it was on rails. not sure if i had some special model but the oe anti-roll bars were massive. also had 4 wheel disc brakes, power locks but manual windows wish i had a pic of mine

Nah, that thing was a POS. The PO wore it out. The doors sagged really bad, the front bumper was cracked and crooked. The interior was trash (ended up putting in new carpet and leather 4th gen seats in it) and it barely ran. I did a ton of cleaning on it though.

I have had at least 6 third gens, I loved those cars. When I first moved to DFW I had a '91 camaro and within 6 months I trashed the K-member trying to get through yellow lights in Arlington. Those dips they have at intersections cause me to bottom out and shoot sparks everytime!

When I bought my '98 Trans Am I cringed the first night because I came up too fast on this dip I knew about by the house and to my surprise it didnt bottom out.

Oh yeah, the 3rd gens are more cruisers than straight liners. Porkers with crap gearing.

Yup. Only motor I have seen that falls on it's ass faster is the 3.8L in my T-bird SC.

The fuel pump is a NIGHTMARE to get to on top of that. It ever goes out on my mom's 89, I am cutting a hole in the hatch area to get at it. TPI has got the be the TOUCHIEST SBC to ever be made. It's always a guessing game when something goes wrong.

That's a good looking t/a. Reminds me of my 89 gta. Red, t-tops, and the L98 5.7 tpi. Damn I miss that car. I don't think the one in the ad is a gta. It doesn't have the gold badges and I don't think it came in that color. All the emblems should be gold. Here is a pic of mine from '97.

One of my buddies had a 89 TTA car. They were my favorite of all the 3 gens.

Regardless they were turds and Chevy should be ashamed the 5.0 dominated them for so long, and now history repeats itself.
