This reminds me of a Cops episode where 5'-3" smarmy cop, smacking his gum was running his mouth to the camera when they came upon a parked car with a drunk guy inside. 5'-3" goes up to the door and starts screaming commands and gets in his 5'-3" commando stance ordering the dude out of the car saying he was going to break the glass, blah blah blah. Drunk dude gets out of car nonchalantly, wondering what's going on when 5'-3" tries to take him down to no avail. Dude had his hand on the steering wheel and 5'-3" was trying with all his might to break his grip and drunk dude was just standing there like nothing was happening asking what was going on. There were other cops there, but I think they were just hanging back to see how far 5'-3" was going to go before stepping in. I have never laughed so hard at a cop show in my life.

I love the reporter talking about "police say the chase was justified despite the unfortunate ending"

concrete driver ok? career criminal dead?

sounds like a very fortunate ending!

That's what happens when you have a smaller officer on larger suspect.

Good way to get fired/suspended. You cannot control ricochets. I don't know of a single department that can do this except DPS Troopers.

Cities just don't want the liability.

I'm not even an MMA student, but I know how to handle guys that are bigger than me.

Is there no training for this situation?

I agree with this last portion. It really sucks he didn't use his taser when up close versus in the truck. They all have the option for up close stun, right?

Gotcha. The ricochet thing makes sense too.

You're Fuckin' right we are!!! I would have armbarred the shit out of the guy and then beat him with his own arm once it ripped away from his body. Then ziptie his now-detached arm to his leg so that I could still handcuff the guy and take him in to the station for booking!

And by doing this, I would have saved his life.

It was posted in an earlier post. I also see a suit against the city and the officer in which some liberal ass jury awards insane amounts of money to the family. Sad what our country has been reduced to

Yes, I am sure you know exactly what to do in this situation. So does every officer, however when you are in these split second situations your mind doesn't always work the way you want it to. In fact, most training goes out the window because your adrenaline kicks in. This isn't a bar room brawl, these are fights for your life.
