How many gears do they have? Sounds like a lot of shifting.

no you don't.... I had one in the late 70's. It was a blast the one weekend of the month it ran. They don't say Fix It Again Tony for a reason.

              Very cool.

I'm guessing since the second vid says "Fiat X19 Proto Kawasaki" that it has some kind of bike engine/trans setup in it. Whatever it has, it's workin! That little sucker is hauling balls. A guy at work has one and it might be the slowest car that has ever existed.

Stock, a 5-speed. They come from the factory with a 1.3l or 1.5l, and it is the same engine/transmission that came in Yugos. Well, actually, Yugos used the Fiat X1/9 engine/transmission in them. I have a neon green one in storage, complete with a spare engine/transmission, plus the front clip from a (somewhat) rare EFI Yugo. I would be rocking that thing, except they are a bitch for people over 6', much less my 6'4" and fat ass.

The, "bigger," 1.5 engine was rated at 75bhp, lol.

A really good friend of mine runs turbocharged Yugos and Fiats, it was always cool for him in his turbo Yugo and me in my turbo Festiva to race. He would mop my ass in corners though in his Yugo, he ran autocross and the Grassroots Motorsports challenges in it for years. It is awesome to see him hitting corners with a tire ten inches off the ground.

                          Jonny Pruitt: 1988 Yugo GTV

                          first appearance: 1999
                          final budget: $893.00

Back in 1999, a young man named Jonny Pruitt called our office to ask about the $1500 Challenge. At that very moment, we realized something: People were actually going to attend this thing. Jonny drove in from Texas for that first event, and he’s been a fixture ever since. He has mixed and matched bodies and drivelines in the years since, but it all started with that red Yugo.

Well who woud have thought some people would race them. I just remember jokes about the rear window defroster keeping your hands warm when you had to push one off the road.

Pretty cool seeing a Yugo done up as a racer.
