Iv got a 2001 ram sport thats green and needs new paint. I want to paint it like this until I can afford to have the whole truck line-x'd. What are my options for paint that will last? this guy used Valspar Low Gloss Black but Iv read that it will get chalky within a few months and I dont want that.

I would think that all paints will get chalky after a while. I've seen some old rods with the flat look, but one of the guys I asked about it said he has to sand it down and retouch it every so often. Not sure if there's some secret to the trade, but that's the only info I've heard on the subject.

Either John Deere paint or Tractor Supply industrial black will do it on the cheap. The John Deere brand stuff is what alot of the hot rodders used with good results. Most will say the flat black is played out and with good reason but I still dig it!

I got a quote from line-x to do the whole truck and it would be $1800. I plan on it eventually but at this point I want to take a cheaper route that I can do myself so it'll look good until I get the line-x done. Right now it's got a bunch of small dents and scratches all over it and it looks like someone has just neglected the truck it's whole life(I bought it like this). Im going to pop some dents out and do some bondo work and I dont want to drive around with bondo splotches all over the truck so I figured I would just paint it that flat black color so it would look good until the line-x.
