If you watch the Planet Earth series (which is fucking awesome BTW) it explains why dolphins do this. They chase schools of fish to the shore, and the dolphins can hyrdoplane on shore to get the fish when they get stuck. Only problem is, the dolphins sometimes get stuck too.Comment
