You're tired of the dicks on here so you want to be one yourself? Makes sense. Which of the two posts above do you think is more dickish or classless? Sensitive much? I think a Beetle may have been a better choice for you.

BTW, I wasn't trying to be a dick. That was an innocent comment.

Rreemo, nice commuter. I've been thinking about picking up a TDI myself after hearing they get close to 40mpg.
Do you have any solid quote's on the shop yet? I've been wanting to do this for the last couple of yrs, but I'm getting really frustrated after getting a few bids over the last couple of weeks... they have ranged anywhere from $34k to $57k for the same plans. All of my quote's have been for a 40'X50' with 14ft walls and a 4/12 pitch. One 12X14 overhead door on the front with an 8X8 on the back and a walk door. I have to do an engineered drawing on the building and the slab, because of the town I live in, so I know that's hurting my cost.
Let me know who you are planning to use or if you have any referrals in the business. I live in Westlake, which isn't too far from you.

http://www.trmetalbuildings.com/home These guys are the most likely for me....they built my next door neighbor's shop (above background first pic)....they quoted me $19K for a 50x60 assembled on the slab with one roll up and one man door.....additional roll-ups, windows, doors, skylights are all extra but on a menu pricing sheet. With the way I'm planning to finish it out with windows, doors, extra concrete, etc. I'm looking at about $25K, and I have a buddy doing the electrical & lights for about another $4K. So by the time I have it up, lit, and with the lift in, I'm firguring about $32K....of course probably a little more with floor coating, and misc BS.

After growing up with my Dad going through several buildings be sure and build it as big as you possibly have room for and can afford. They are never big enough. We started out with one 60x40 for business/toys and now he is up two 2 60x40's for business and has a 60x64 and a 20x25 for toys that are pretty much full in addition to a 60x40 carport.

Had this thing about 6 weeks now, have put a little over 2K miles on it, and thought I'd give an update after only recently getting in-touch with the PO. I ended up locating him through FB...turned out to be a pretty cool guy too. He's in the Air Force and said that it sat in his parents garage for 5-years while he lived in Germany...only had his Dad driving it to work once or twice a month...that answers the question on how the miles stayed down on it.

He gave me a ton of info on it...turns out that last timing belt replacement was actually the second one, he said he had it done every 40K b/c he was paranoid about it. The clutch was also done just a little more than 10K ago, and as I thought...the tires were put on only about a month before I got it. He said he had no intention of getting rid of it, just happened to be car shopping with a friend and ended up trading into a new R model himself. He said they made him a solid trade offer...I was very interested to hear that the dealer gave him just $500 less on trade than what I paid them for it. I guess it was an easy $500 for them, though, and he saved on taxes with his new one.

He has a bunch of other paperwork that he is going to send to me as well...said it has always run Mobil-1, and he has most of the documentation that I am missing. I think from what was in the car and what he has now I'll end up with a pretty good documented history on it.

Anyways, he also let me know that it has an APR chip in it too...but it was set to stock when he traded it. It has stock, 91 octane, and 93 octane tunes in it...really easy to swap them...actually do it with the cruise control. The 93 octane tune is 50hp over stock...I screwed around with it this past weekend and holy crap does it wake up!! 50hp in a little turd like this feels like a lot! It's night & day over stock.

The first couple tanks weren't great...only clocked around 25mpg, but I started running mid grade fuel in it and it's gotten progressively better...30.2 out of the last tank and 29.4 out of the tank before that one. I'm tempted to put the 91-octane tune in it for a tank and see what it does...I'm sure it will knock it down, but I wonder how much.

Been a great little car so far...we'll see how it goes the next few months.

That's a cool commuter car for sure. My wife had an 06' Jetta, that she absolutely abused! She commuted back and forth from a city about 120 miles from where we live, about 3 times a week. That car had 178,000 miles on it when we sold it this past summer. Other than routine oil changes, and a few burned out tailights, it had never had any maintanence done on it at all. NONE. I was somewhat warned about owning VW's as well. But now that it's gone, we both agree, that it was one of the best cars we've ever owned.

VW really came a long ways when they brought out the new jetta. I really like the 06+ the 99-05s look good, but I have heard way to many horror stories. Rremmo congrats on the car, and "cough" pm me back lol.
