Steve, I only come here to entertain myself. If I want to see sad I just read your posts. My life is far from sad compared to yours. I hate to toot my own horn but it really is a fucking fairy tale compared to 99.9% of the assholes that lurk here, yourself included.

Let me say this. DWI checkpoints anger me. I do not drink and drive, and I sure as hell do not like being subjected to illegal searches. Do I blame the officers? Nah, they are doing when they are told to do and I am pretty sure that given the option they would not do it.

I do however as a whole dislike police departments and the way they are run. We do a substantial amount of business with them, and getting your money practically takes an act of congress. A private company will usually pay off their AR in about 30-45 days. A police department (and many other government run entities) will usually take about 6 months to pay off a single contract. It just goes to show you how poorly these institutions are run. I mean what the fuck, is their entire accounting process above the law too? If a private company pulled that kind of shit, they would be out of business in a week.

A private business doesn't have a steady stream of incoming tax dollars.

It KILLS me how governments are run. I'll tell another story, I know I've told it before, but here goes....

Years ago we got a contract with an auto parts company for parts. I went to get a couple of fleet keys for our patrol cars, and I saw the invoice. The city was being charged something like $4.50 for each key mind you it's a simple Ford ignition key.

I thought it was outrageous, so I went to Walmart and bought the same key for 99cents. I submitted a P.A.Y.S. suggestion to save the city money, and I was told that we have a legal contract that we have to abide by.

Really? I wonder what city councilman got his palm greased for that one???

It's nice just to be a positive influence. One that guides junior officers and stands up to make morally right decisions.

Hell, yesterday I spent an hour out on 287 where it merges to I35 near downtown FTW. I hate people that run up to the merge and cut over, and I spent an hour pulling people out of that line and giving them the option to continue on the path that they were supposed to, or getting cited and continuing onto I35. Out of about 20 people given that option, none wanted the paper. I directed about 50 people back onto 287 and you should have seen the reaction from the drivers that had waited in line. I got a plethora of honks, thumbs up, and waves (no, not with a middle finger).

As a supervisor, am I obligated to do this? No.

I get job satisfaction out of helping the little guy. I did not make a single penny of revenue for the city.

Will my actions stop people from ever cutting over that line? No way.

Now back to my point. At least I tried to do something. I made an effort yesterday that was noticed and appreciated.
THANK YOU, Nothing pisses me off more than waiting my turn than having some one drive up shoulder or wrong lane and try to push there way in front of me.

And that is why I hate government run entities.

I want to make it very clear though that I do not have some inexplicable contempt for police officers. I have never really been in that crowd.

When I was in Tucson there would be one up almost every weekend. Downtown only had a few ways in and out of it, and the people who lived on one side of the town generally all used the same little highway to get home. That's the road they always posted up on - and they had someone pulled over and out of their car every single time I saw it.
