I'm fortunate to have my dad's flight helmet and goggles, dress jacket and his photo album of over 400 photos. I also have his S&W Victory Model 38 that he got off an Aussie in Port Moresby.
What you have is family history, to be passed down from generation to generation so that his service won't be forgotten.

My parents have my Grandfathers full dress uniform. I wore it as a youngster in a (flame me, fine...I dont care) concert honoring all branches of the military. My grandfather was in the audience and saw me wearing it during our performance.
He was in the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles". He was one of the crazy ones that jumped out in the middle of the night, the night before D-Day.
I imagine I will inherit it since I am the only one who owns firearms and have any type of respect for Military types, though I regret...was never in the service.
