Suspect swinging a deadly weapon at another person (happens to be a fellow po) and u have a choice.... Send in a dog who has reaction time and could possibly not get perp fast enough to stop him and injure himself in the process (considered a fellow officer whether u like it or not), or shoot him knowing u were FULLY justified in stopping the threat with something that is quick and effective? Him swinging that pipe turned it into a deadly force scenario and overrides the use of the dog in the use of force continuum. I know my answer.

I see it the same as being in a situation where you and someone you don't know draw guns on each other: are you going to wait and see if the other guy shoots first? What you're arguing is that you'd rather allow a violent perp the opportunity to injure/kill a LEO before you'd neutralize him. And before you say "LET THAT THAR PO-LEECE DAWGIE ON THAT UN THAR FELLER!'', if he fucks up that dog with the pipe wrench he's done the same as fucking up a human cop.Originally posted by PGreenCobraI can't get over the fact that you get to go live the rest of your life, knowing that someone made a Halloween costume out of you. Also to person above who asked about the Ofcr shooting it gangster style. We are taught when one handed shooting, to cant the gun. It's more natural with the gun turned inward the having to bring the gun into sight with the sights straight up. Try it! It's quite useful

Look I see ur point but it's not going to work. We are set to a standard of use of force. It stair steps. When the Ofcr observed the suspect taking an aggressive stance and reared back to swing at the other Ofcr, he acted appropriately. Dog doesn't travel at 900 fps:.. It was a deadly force situation which is never good. The officer acted quickly and correctly. No officer is going to release a dog with a command (taking valuable time), when someone was fixin to receive seriously bodily injury or death.
Same situation, u are the guy who has pissed off the pipe wielder. I just show up with scrappy the k9. I'm talking to the suspect who has the pipe but not swinging it and its just at his side. He then turns to u and again, attempts a swing. I would shoot too. I have to protect my citizens, my officers, and my life. Deadly force is authorized if one of those three are in danger of losing there life or receiving srs bodily injury. sorry you don't agree. Everyone has there opinion. I'm just shedding some light on the situation from a LEO standpoint and what I observed.

Nah, dog probably comes in if taser fails. But the situation changed very quickly to the top. Which would be "guns" or Deadly force. He wasn't complying to verbal commands, still held a potential weapon, and then turns to attack. So no time for the doggy.
