  • Got a new daily.

Well, my T-bird SC went on the fritz and will be down for a while, so I picked up a new daily driver and I will sell the SC when I get it fixed. Got myself a 2004 Mazda RX8. 2nd owner, 130K miles, 6 speed manual, cloth seats, no NAV. I have always loved the RX8 and I got this one for a good price. My only concern is on that rotary, but it seems to get decent reviews and this one runs great. The ride and handling of this car is OUTSTANDING.

I will get better pics tomorrow.

Is that the off-road version, and did you piss in the seat?

They make Turbo kits for them?

Lol, the stance is actually decent, it's just the angle that I am on. And no, the cloth on the seat is just fanned a different direction.

Yeah, they do. I am likely going to keep it stock though. Has good enough power for me.

Oh and for the future posters, it looks slow because it is, but I will kick your ass in the twistys.

Guy I work with picked up one just like that a few months ago, he loves it.
Just remember to check your oil like every time you fill the gas tank
Burns oil like a mofo, but thats a rotary for you.

Yep, I knew about the oil issues going in. Scared the shit out of me because I found an oil/water milkshake on the upper part of the dipstick after I bought it, but it's a common problem with the Renesis engine, it gets condensation on the stick.

I used to have a silver 04. It was a blast. Make sure it has already had the motor replaced. 04 originally had a problem with the oil injection into the chamber. Caused a lot of problems with the apex and side seals. I got a new motor put in mine after i got it. Mazda covered the new motor but got a bad one from the factory. Decided to get rid of it after that. Super fun car to drive. Like driving a big go kart. Enjoy 12000rpm.

Plus make sure you let it warm up fully if you start it. Don't shut it down cold. Floods sometimes.
Why put off till tomorrow what you can put off till the next day?

The guy I bought it from never changed the engine, but the first owner traded it in at 20K miles for some reason. It's a freaking blast to drive, the only thing I have driven that was close is my old 93 300ZX. The guy I got it from kept it maintained, 3K mile oil changes, all scheduled maintenance, etc.

I'm sorry. I changed a ton of those engines when I worked for Mazda.

Anything in particular to watch out for? They seem easy to work on. I know about the flooding and oil usage and I know that it's best to run 5W30 in them rather than 5W20.

I had friend who had a demo model for the weekend when those first came out, after a saturday night of ragging on it we had to stop and buy some oil for it lol.

Lot of fun to drive, I'd be skeptical on owning one but I won't hate as I've always thought they'd be a great daily so long as it was working. If all else fails you can just toss a 13B out of a formula mazda in there after the original blows; they're supposed to be pretty tough little engines.

Other than embarrassing a guy in a race with his teenage son in his paper plated RX-8 when they first came out other than they're slow.

You might want to read what you wrote there, because it doesn't make a bit of sense.
