Then there was an issue with bad connecting rods being made that where used in the 2.5 engines. With the low oil misprint the oil would run low and the connecting rods let loose..This sent them thru the block which in turn dumped oil all over the exhaust/CAT causing the fires. Only 260 fire where reported of all Fiero produced but of course there where more from other issues such as poor maintence and up keep...I would say they do not catch fire anymore than any other production car out there.......But the Fiero got stuck with it.....It is one of the first statements I hear from people when I get out of mine.....I dont even worry with explaining anymore....
