The GT500 showed up yesterday. I picked up a fresh bottle of glue today and hopefully I can get started mocking stuff up tomorrow and get some pictures posted. It looks like the GT500 kit is a bit bigger than the old '65 kit I've got so there will be some serious modification to get this to work.Originally posted by LeahBest balls I've had in my mouth in a while.

I buy a lot of stuff online. Keep an eye on hobby lobby, they run a lot of those 20-50% off sales on an entire department in their store. Other than that, I just judge it on the car that I want to build. Some kits are Out Of Production. If thats the case, google, then turn to e-bay. Hobby Lobby has a good selection of kits at reasonable prices. They also sell K&S brass rod and tubing, which is what I use for chassis and cage work a lot. It can be soldered together instead of glued, however, plastic/styrene rod and tubing is a little easier to work with when you are starting out. I typically go for scale accuracy/realism, so I usually try and make sure I find the most accurate size rod/tube to replicate what I'm trying to build.
Here are a couple of pictures of the Mustang. These are quick shots, It may not be sitting level, the tires are shoved under the chassis just to see what they will look like. Whether I use the kit chassis tub or the GT500, they will both require a good deal of modification to work.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm heading to my storage unit again today, hopefully my some of my paints are still good! I'm going to try and get the chassis sorted out this week and see whether or not the engine from the GT500 kit will look right in the engine bay. If I use the kit chassis tub, I will need to open up the trans tunnel, as well as do some work on the inner fender areas, creating them from scratch. Also, I plan to pick up a metal plate today to start working on mocking up a chassis for the GT500 body. If anyone has some good full chassis road race or drag race pictures that would help, that would be great.Originally posted by LeahBest balls I've had in my mouth in a while.

If you want to get serious about your paint jobs, buy a spray gun and some cheap automotive clear and clear your cars with that. I did a 1:24 impala and that thing looked slick like a real car. Just choke down on the fluid tip and you're golden. It sucks to see awesome builds with dull paint jobs.

All of my builds are finished with a 2 part urethane clear.
The mustang is still in progress, the hood is dull because It was wet sanded to take care of some imperfections. The lighting where the pictures were took isn't the greatest.Originally posted by LeahBest balls I've had in my mouth in a while.

I spent the last hour or so removing a section of the chassis to get the engine to sit down in the engine bay. I will have to modify the interior tub as well to clear the transmission. I will get some pictures up in a little bitOriginally posted by LeahBest balls I've had in my mouth in a while.

A little update. First, You will notice a steel plate in the pictures. This is something I picked up over on Automotiveforums.com and the scale auto mag forums from watching clay kemp's builds. The steel plate, along with magnets, allows you to hold pieces in place. Plastic when cutting/scribing, tubes and rods when building custom chassis'. Not a huge update as there isn't much to photograph. I've removed a section of the floor and started re-constructing out of styrene sheet so that the engine will sit in the chassis like it is supposed to. Along with that, I'm going to have to section the interior tub. I'm going to separate the trans tunnel and firewall (in one piece) from the rest of the interior tub. This will allow me to make the modifications necessary to the interior to clear the new trans tunnel. If anyone on the board who owns a first gen mustang is watching, PM me, I could use some reference photos.
