Silver is a real bitch to shoot especially if you don't have a good gun. It gets streaks and splotchyness real easy. I don't know what happened to your paint, but I would guess some kind of contaminant caused it.

It's like the color washed away. I'm just gonna respray the whole truck as it looks splotchy.

I sprayed a gun metal metalic silver on a coupe the other day and it took about 6 hours. It was the first time I had ever had to spray and just wait to see what it would do during the flash time. I would spray and it would try and lay spread unevenly kinda like spraying water over oil. It kicked my ass but turned out pretty nice.

be real careful, i will write you a check right now that says if you scuff/respray you will have the exact same result next time. there is a chemical reaction going on under the surface of the paint. i'd let it cure for a week or two then sand it and seal it, then reprime and paint. i've had this happen with ppg dbc/cc and it was even worse when i tried to respray. i believe they call it pruning btw, the surface looks like a prune under the clear coat, no?

You sure it wasnt the enviroment you painted in? I remember it was a cold weekend with rain in the forcast. I always heard that is the worst condition to paint in. Im not expert though but also, it sat in the rain less than a week later? I really would think it needed to cure alot longer, especially in the cold.

Yeah, I'm going to guess there is some contaminant or solvents coming back up. I saw that you sprayed a sealer, but I'm a little concerned with how cool and damp it was when you sprayed, as well as it being done in a garage where any number of chemicals have been sprayed, such as WD40, brake cleaner, etc.

Where do you live? I might be able to have my dad check it out for you. He's painted some pretty nice stuff before.

This is the reason I'm scared to paint my own shit.

FWIW just because its "sandable in 24hrs" doesn't mean its cured.

I would bet its moisture related, but its hard to tell through a computer screen. Keep us updated!

it can either go pretty smooth, or very very rough. i've done 3 full resprays in a "garage" setting and the first I had tons of problems, the 2nd two went great. it is all in the prep. gotta clean the garage, tons of wax/grease remover, and be super careful about what could get on the surface of the vehicle between coats.

this is why I asked if he was spraying any type of aerosol can at anytime recently.

My uncle is a pro painter and said WD40 can last a loooong time in a garage. When we did my 86 in the carport, we made sure we covered the whole area in plastic and if it got cold, pulled a heater out to keep the area somewhat warm.

it is not easy painting in a garage.

Nothing was sprayed during any of the painting process. Garag was clean and everything other than the weather was controlled. My dad has done abou 15 garage paint jobs and this is the first time something like this has happened. I could re-seal that side and spray it again. I'm not sure I want to stick with this silver though. We have a gallon of black laying around.
