Good to see you got it running - it's a great feeling!
one thing we had a LOT of problems with, that silicone elbow coming out of the compressor. You won't see any problems at low boost - but I can promise you that thing will pop.. just ask bigshoe about his. We popped 3 of them on his car I think. Sounds like a shotgun going off..

You think I should weld a cast aluminum elbow to the compressor housing?

I've done it before, and I'd do it again - I just feel there's other ways to fix this.
If it were mine, I'd carry a spare elbow around with me. If you pop that thing at the track and drive home - I'd be weary about tearing up the turbo from overspeeding and no load.

ya, good idea, i'll go ahead and buy another silicone elbow for now, my fear with welding the cast elbow on is distorting the cover, figure i'll have to build some type of jig to keep it from warping if i choose to do it (maybe if i end up doing it i'll just bite the bullet on this one and pay you to do it instead!)
don't take that pill, i love looking at projects like yours, i just enjoy playing with my toys too much

If you get in and get it done, you won't distort it at all. It's a small enough bead, and not enough welding - it should be fine. A jig won't do much other than complicate the welding.
