and i guess you were running alot of timing? no trying to stir the pot anymore, i see it was stirred for 5 pages. lol
I suppose I was running "enough timing"

No matter what number I put there I was going to get jumped all over. 16* on 93 and meth worked without knock for a lot of passes.

The stock cast pistons don't take much detonation (especially back in the super heated #7) before they let go. It started getting hot out, I started getting greedy with the boost and got punished for it.

I have log after log after log of it on 16* without an ounce of detonation, matter of fact up until the last 2 runs I never saw any at all and my last two passes were right around 6.0's (even with the popped piston).

this may be the route i go actually. put a drain on my cell, bring a 5 gallon gas can with me to the track, drain the cell, fuel it up with race gas, race, then put pump gas back in it for the drive home. could probably get away with a mix of pump/race gas as well.

i dont see any problems with a little mixture of 93 with the race gas. i normally will have a half gallon of 93 still in the tank when i pour 5 gallons of 116 in.

you could easily add a t-fitting on the end of the return line right before the tank. take the cap off, turn your pump on and it'll drain the tank in a minute or two and will get most of the 93 out of the lines.

        just a thought!

This is sounding more and more like the solution. I was thinking I probably just put the drain off the unused -8 fitting that is currently capped off on my sump. Probably just buy a 90* fitting and cap it pointing towards the ground. Then when I get to the track I'd just uncap it, drain it into a gas can, then go put some race gas in. I could probably mark off inside the tank where one gallon is, put that much 93 back in and like 2 gal of race gas. When I'm ready to go home just pour the rest of the fuel jug back into the cell.

          C16 goes for ~10 a gallon?

I could still cruise on the street on the gate (~5psi) on pump gas safely.

          • what kind of IAT's were you logging on these passes?

hard to be 100% certain when spraying meth as it sprays across the IAT. typically i'd see 125-135* at the start of a pass and as soon as the meth came on it'd drop ~50* (i.e. 80-90*). not real sure how accurate that is though.

i used the IAT to pull timing in case the meth failed. so if my IAT's went over 140* it would aggressively pull timing out of it. since i have the fast acting iat sensor the temps drop pretty much instantly when the meth comes on at 10psi.

I have the bosh 160's. which i run at a base of 60 so iirc that makes them 196lbs. and right now on 116 the DC is around 78%. So i dont even know if i have enough injector to switch to E85 without turning the base pressure up.
Put a new convertor in and made 816hp 18lbs, my 120's 99% lol
Took it to the track Friday got some good #'s but need alittle more.

it is nice to be able to get gas at any gas station and drive to the track, make some passes, drive off the track onto the street and to the house, but it sucks when you lose part of your piston!
You could do that with E-85 just take extra with you.

I totally respect what your doing, which is exactly why i"ll stay low HP in warranty.

You need to pull it all back apart and have the block decked. WHile your at it have the heads milled and start with two true flat clean surfaces. Your last motor had a piston as the weak point. This one will have head gasket problems.

Does it really matter when your a member of the 30/30 club? 30psi with 30 degrees timing

                          • would have to agree on the decking, at the very least have the surfaces all checked for trueness

                              • No 5.85, but got to do my first wheelie tonight, had to let out for a little bit when it came down out of the groove, drove through to a 5.92, hope it's a bit cooler out at the cruise and I can finally best that .85 already!
