If it's yours then why does he keep talking about his car?

Forced Induction - How much power can this iron short block hold? - Seasond LQ9 bored .020 over, stock crank, Lunati Pro-Mod forged rods (6.125 ), and JE forged pistons (-22cc dish). Should yeild ~8.2:1 compression with the 317 heads. How much HP would this combo be good for ?

    • Yup, nĂºmero 7 called it quits on me. Car ran perfect up till I pulled it in the garage. I knew the motor started making a little noise but it was running fine, passed a leak down, no smoke, no blow by, but when I stuck a scope down in that cylinder and there was a piece missing! Motor is going to the machine shop this week once my rods show up. Not going to change much on the motor, .030 over, good pistons/rods, dropping the compression a little, new bearings, ls9 head gaskets, and some head studs. Hope to be back out by the end of the month.

Pump gas, 93 octane, 16-17psi, stock cast pistons, lasted a lot of passes. I think it might have actually happened the Thursday before the cruise on 161 actually (heard some interesting noises but thought I ran over something), if so it means it made 8-9 passes like that.

motor is completely down to the block, pistons/rings are here. head studs and head gaskets get here tomorrow. rods are being drop shipped, could be here tomorrow or the next day. bearings will be here by the end of the week. machine shop said they'll have the block/rotating assembly back to me in a week. i think i am going to take off early on friday and drop it all off at the machine shop and hopefully pick it up the next friday.

              • What the hell were you thinking running 16-17lbs on a stock piston with pump fuel?

Oh yeah thats right. Its the first car you ever tuned.

                You ran "5.85" on 13lbs and a 6.0 on 17lbs?

                Told you so.

                • Jay has run 12-18pounds on a stock motor for 3-4 years now, but he does it on e85 and a crappy tune I did. Never a piston problem...but I would never think about trying to do it on 93, just taking too many chances. Good luck getting it back together, and switch to a better fuel!

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

Thanks Chris, and ya, I'm considering adding a lot more meth or just mixing in race gas at the track. Not 100% sure. I don't like not being able to turn it up on the street but E85 seems like a PITA to me (not being readily available near me).

Depends on how what you mean by setback, time wise I guess it's not too bad, but damn these things start to $$$$ snowball when you start adding up all the parts.

for sure, who knows when it even happened. as much as i hate to say agree with sam, it was bound to happen. the car has never been able to hook up and move out as well with the 1.76 glide off the tbrake as it did with the th350 off the footbrake/2step. once i get the new motor in i am going to spend some time really getting the suspension figured out so i can get it back into the 1.3 60's which by itself should put it well into the 5's, then turn the wick up on the turbo and see what it'll do.

ya, i know, i might end up going that route but i like being able to get gas whenever/where ever i need it, esp. with a fuel cell.

E85 is a completely different fuel. You can do that without ever having a problem.
