I might be naive, but I believe the tune up was good. My problem was being greedy, rather then fix the traction issues I just kept turning up the power on the big end to try to make up for a bad short times and eventually found the limit of the stock parts/pump gas combo.

It'd have been nice to know when it happened and be able to really see what went wrong in the log and find a way to prevent it from happening again (and had that been the case I might have gone ahead and thrown in another stock piston and tried it again), but all I really learned from it was not to try that again (at least on stock parts). This motor has well known issues doing this to the #7 piston, it is not an isolated event.

Ideally I would really like to stay on pump gas and just spray more meth, but I am undecided at this point. I figure the drop in compression along with some good forged parts should give me a little more forgiveness.

        • Hope you get back going faster. Sucks to take it apart but that's just what happens. Me and Chris we see how long mine last on 20lbs. 18lbs has been good to me but I want a little more hp. I think i'll be ok with Chris's crap tune ; )

good luck, 20psi seems to be around the limit of the 4 bolt heads anyways so if it'll live like that no reason to really upgrade anything inside. what kind of compression do you have with the l92's?

but yet you cant take being made fun of when you catch a car on fire spraying too much N20 on a LS7 block. lmfao

That was my point. I dont see any reason to push things on 93..i just never bought into the hype of "my car is this fast on pump". When in reality you should be saying "my car is this close to blowing up".
You could always wire up an e85 flex fuel sensor to your pcm, or get a dual flash pcm

                    • I would have kept the compression at 10 and converted to e85.

I just converted my coupe to it, blowing through the converter it ran a new best. It's some good stuff.

Its around 9.1. Its not that the heads will to hold it, its all in the tune. No ping no boom. Jp makes 1000hp + with 4 bolt heads. Again all in the tune.

the thin deck stock lsx heads + 4 bolt design has limitations on cylinder pressure. hell, i was on stock 317's, stock head gaskets, and stock TTY head bolts @ 17psi and never pushed a drop.

i do agree with you though, magnifying the cylinder pressures via detonation increases the odd's you will have a problem, but i don't think that it is safe to say that you can tune around the design completely (at least not with out copper rings or o-rings). i know jp is making it @ 1000rw and that is awesome, but i bet you that neither he, you, nor I would be surprised if he starts pushing water with it either, just like i wasn't surprised that off all 8 cylinders, the notorious #7 let go on me.

and how are you getting 9.1 compression out of a stock 6 liter with l92's? even the lower compression lq4 would be at 9.6-9.7 with those 70cc heads.

Says the guy who's tore more shit up then me. So what my car blew up, thats part of it.

I'd say your car has had more down time then anyone on this site combined.
Doing enough racing for 99% of the board!

I doubt that. Well he talks shit to James about putting too much boost to his motor yet he put too much N20 to that block and caught the damn car on fire. Shouldn't talk shit he does the same crap. And my car is hardly ever down.
