If they are apneic and completely obstructed, I will try to push the obstruction down into the right mainstem bronchus and ventilate the left lung to keep them alive until they can be taken to the OR. If I am unable to push it down further I will do a cricothyroidotomy if its an adult or needle jet insufflation if its a child.

Airway foreign bodies can be quite frightening...and lethal. It's a good thing that is did not get lodged around the vocal cords. I believe someone on here told a story once about a child out in the garage with dad and the child inhaled a bolt or nut and died. It's more common than you think.
