Pretty sure you are wrong. From a dead stop they won't have any power, they are charged from the heat energy from the brakes.

They use the boost in straights, it's electric nitrous in simple words.

Pretty awesome stuff.

In the video it says they start the race with fully charged batteries and use it on the start.
