        It's a custom, built out of an old side car and powered by an old HD 45 flat head. The timing is about right, early to mid 80's. There was a full story in Easyriders back then. I got rid of all my back issues years ago though.

                did a little research on them and it seems they are powered by the same 2.3 from the ford ranger, most likely using the same transmission too

                  I think it's the 2.3 from the Focus and the Focus transmission if I remember correctly from when they built the prototype. They could have changed it.

                    judging by the pic posted in post 14 i would bet on it being the ranger setup, due to the rwd style transmission

                      yeah looks like you are right. It is the same engine though.

                      The Duratec 23 is the 2.3L DOHC engine that Mazda built.

                      The 23EW (FWD) was in the 2003-2007 Focus, 2005-2008 Escape, and 2005-2009 Fusion

                      The 23NS (RWD) was in the 2001 Ranger and B Series Mazda, and now used in the Stallion.

                      *EW means East/West configuration, NS means North/South configuration (thought that was kinda cool to note)
