Oh, I don't know, maybe take a trillion or two away from our outrageous national defense budget and reinvest that money into our country and society. Or maybe from income tax. Or maybe a system like Social Security. Or maybe a million other ways. Fuck if I know. All I know is that our country is full of lazy, worthless, blaming pussies. We are the laughing stock of the free world. Just thinking outside of the box a bit, I know how hard it is for the fanatical right to do.
You really don't get it do you? There are enough "free" or reduced cost ways to go to college now. I left a major 4 year university with approximately $200 of credit card debt incurred in my last three weeks of college. I decided to stay a few extra nights on a beach trip. It was promptly paid off in my first full week out of school. Instead of sitting at home between job interviews, I did something about it. I umpired baseball games 6 nights a week for a few hundred in cash.

Yes, I was fortunate. They don't just hand full scholarships to everyone. You can sure as well work for them though. Neither of my parents finished college. My dad was on basketball scholarship but had to quit to support his family. He was the oldest of 9 kids, and his dad, my grandfather, died an illiterate alcoholic former plant worker and coal miner. Two generations later, both my brother and I have degrees and solid jobs. I busted my ass in school and applied for every single scholarship that I could find. I was an all conference athlete and valedictorian. I earned what I have, and that's why I value it so much. After graduation, I took my time interviewing the last semester and that summer after I graduated. I moved in with my parents, worked nights and weekends for cash, paid them rent, and turned down job offers waiting for the perfect one. I found it, and I'm still with the same company 15 years later.

Since you skipped the info above, just realize this. When there is a cost to something, it holds value. If you have an investment in your education, then you damn well had better pay attention, learn, and then put it to use. If you make it "free" or give it as entitlement, then it won't mean anything to have a degree. Higher learning is just that -- it is a privilege that everyone can enjoy if they are willing to sacrifice and work for it.
