When my kids go off to college, if they want - I plan to have a lot of money saved up. The goal is for them not to know that though.

I'd like for my kids to WANT IT and want it bad enough to earn it. My money will be there for bad situations, get them through the last year or as a fairly significant graduation present.

However, if they are not willing to work hard for that education - I'm promptly going to buy a fuck ton of new guns.

If they decide to enlist as opposed to going straight into college. After they are done their enlistment or around 25 they'll get the money that was planned for them.

Again though, hopefully they don't find this post in 10 years, I don't want them to know there is a cushion. I want them to understand sacrifice, saving, being a little hungry and knowing what being a young person is about.

I got kicked out of the house when I was 18 and was a senior in high school. But, I was in a contract at the time with the government that if I got anything else besides a normal high school diploma then I would get a dishonorable discharge. Oh, did I mention that my family moved 500 miles away 2 weeks after I got kicked out of school? I only had a part time job making minimum wage ($4.25 an hour at the time) to pay my bills. So, I lived in a borrowed 15' long RV for the remainder of my senior year in high school and I graduated on my own.

I went on later in life to a trade school and then proceeded to get certifications in my field of work. Yeah, I'm in debt right now, but I have no credit card debt at all cause I was smart, paid them off, then cut them up.

        I AM the 1%

I wish these KIDS would grow the fuck up and take responsibility for their own lives.
Annoying people, one post at a time!

99% are the ones mad at the uber rich %1 who already pay an unimaginable amount of taxes. the 99% feel they should pay more, just because they can afford it.

I do work plenty hard for my money. And should my kids choose to go to school, they'll be able to do so. They are my kids. I don't expect someone else to foot the bill for it. Just as I won't be footing the bills for anyone else's kid. I like how you are willing to take money out of my pocket, but you ignore the request for you to put your money where your mouth is.

As for the social security bit, again what planet are you on? Are you not aware of the failure that is? Let me know how it works when you start getting social security. Oh, wait....

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to educate even 20% of the nation's youth?

Rich people are rich because they worked for it.
Rich people have goals and aspirations.

                  Middle class - normal people

Poor people are poor because they don't want to work.
Poor people are lazy and would rather live life as a giant party and not take anything serious.

                  --------------------------------------

Then you have the lucky group of people who fall into money and receive ownership.

Not all people are rich because they worked for it dude...not even close. Someone a long time ago worked for it, and it's been passed on and on in many cases.

To what extent? Of course you can't summarize all in those categories as such and there are variances to all of them, but as for the majority of the people in those categories I would say its pretty true. The poor people I know or have met sure don't have much ambition to do anything to change it, and all the rich people I know have/had the ambition to do so.

Yeah, I guess you can say the people above with goals and aspirations to succeed are struggling and may end up poor was a poor choice of words but they are probably doing something wrong.

Like I said, there are many variances to this and a lot of different things to take into account.

Maybe how I worded it was off but everyone has priorities and depending on what they are paves the path in which they live.

People on both sides pick out the extremes of each side to cite as examples, but in the end I think we're all a lot more similar-minded than we think.

On dfwmustangs I feel like a minority that's more moderate than most of you. On other sites I feel a lot more right than the majority of posters.

I text back and worth with a self-described "liberal anarchist" chick I grew up with who legally grows medical marijuana for extra income.

She's about as left as anyone I've ever actually known in life. She thinks I'm a conservative nut, but I've still managed to find common ground with her and explain that I'm not as conservative as she thinks I am nor is she as liberal as she thinks.

Everyone seems to be against waste, abuse of the system (whether by the poor exploiting entitlement programs or the ultrawealthy exploiting tax loopholes), corruption on wall street, corruption in Washington, etc. no matter how left or right you see yourself.

Seems like the real divide in this country isn't so much because our individual views are so different, but because the people we listen to and get our news from (whether left or right) are such fucking assholes.

Each sides politicians and propagandists twist everything so much that each side believes the other is insane.

                              Just my thoughts

I worked full time while earning my associates degree at Eastfield. It's not too much of a degree but I worked my ass off for everything that I now have, and yes, I am a solid 1%. Many weekends while my buds were guzzling beer at the lake, I was working.

I didn't sit around waiting for a handout or expecting someone to cover me when I had losses in my business. I've had my ass kicked may times but just worked harder and smarter to overcome the adversity. I built a great business and now I am entitled to reap the enjoyment.

I've paid social security in for myself and matched hundreds of employees ss over the years. I will never see one red ass dime from any of that money sent to the government.

And just what is my fair F-ing share? last year I paid about 42% of my income. Some years less, some years more depending on depreciation rates, capitol gains, etc. I only get paid after the employees do. And yes, my B--ls are hanging out on the line everyday while all the employees go home with none of the financial worries.

Yep, my kids won't ever have to worry about college being paid for. I am finally at a point that I can enjoy some of the money that I've made and I will guarantee you that I will give whatever I don't spend to my kids to piss off before I give it to the gubbment.
